Cargill Road Switcher  Contributor's Pick!
Normally I see switchers. Here's something more. CANX Reporting marks come back to CANAC International. THis looks to be a heavily rebuilt GP. According to 1 site I looked at supposably this reporting mark was discontinued in 2004. So this is indeed something special.

Switchman Images General Not really, CANX was sold to Savage Canada Railway, or something like that, they still retain the markings for the lease/contract fleet! CANAC retained the remote control business Nice catch!! 7/22/2006 4:13:45 AM
William Grimes General You are right, this rebuild GP is one of the original GP16's done by CRR. 8/1/2006 6:22:10 PM
Allan Love Jr General So how long will they be here in Blair? 9/28/2006 9:56:37 AM
Jim Bruce General Unit is a GP11 3/9/2008 8:06:53 AM
William Grimes General No...GP11's were done by ICG, this is a CRR GP16. 4/6/2008 7:40:13 AM
Jim Bruce General Unit IS a GP11.This Clinchfield GP11 rebuild was one outsourced to the ICG/PNC shop at Paducah, KY and is an Illinois Central Gulf Paducah Shops rebuild. ICG designated these as GP11 locomotives. ICG Paducah-rebuilt GP11 locomotives were numbered in the 8700-series. Clinchfield Railroad also had 6 of these GP11 locomotives. These were also built by ICG-Paducah, and are betrayed by the shortened nose (to accomodate a new electrical cabinet behind the cab,) spartan cab and the primary air filtration system, which is mounted atop the hood behind the forward radiator section. The GP16 is a product of Seaboard System and Family Lines' own Geep rebuild progam, with units dubbed Uceta Geeps, because of the shop that did the work, followed, and these encompassed core units from most of the Family Lines component roads. 11/24/2008 12:50:16 PM
Switchman Images General The GP11 -v- GP16 argument is age old & subject to interpretation. 12/11/2009 2:06:06 PM
Switchman Images General As of December 2009, Savage is still the switching contractor here @ Cargill in Blair, NE. This unit was shipped to MAC for paint, IIRC, so it may have come out with a new number. There is an SD40-2 here now in SVGX colors, and probably at least 3 other engines. 12/11/2009 2:07:58 PM
G Gerard General GP11 -v- GP16: it is neither. This is a GP10. The cab is not forward like a GP11 and GP16s did not received the air filter assembly on the long hood. 1/21/2010 8:49:01 PM
